Rock of Ages

It was the best title I could come up with....I have been somewhat M.I.A for the last few days...my dad is very ill and I have been in the throws of an emotional turmoil.
It is something that every aging adult must face....as we approach our 20th class reunion obviously our parents are 20 years older....as we were 18 and now we are 38....our parents were 40-50 and now they are 60-70.
Now my parents were young when I was born and my dad is all of 58 and very healthy ( until some unfortunately events from surgery complications) and active. I do not consider my Dad OLD....I do NOT consider MYSELF OLD...therefore I should not be contemplating the "what if my Dad passes away"!!
Now...that is somewhat selfish of me as I know some of my classmates have lost a parent already at a much younger age...I understand.....
And as we either cheer or boo for the current healthcare reform acts and issues...remember the the baby boomer generation that will be using this "reform", are our parents AND make up the largest population group in this country AND make up the largest group of doctors and nurses in the country.....were did I get my stats?? look it up its out there.....
Point....hug your kids...they are the ones that will be taking care of you.....call your parent(s)...no matter how many times they marry & divorce....you really only get 1 mom 1 DAD....

What are did you drive????

Remember the days of being excited about driving??? I am to the point where if the husband drives and I dont have too......AMEN!....Who drove the pink karmann Ghia VW?? Was it Casey Cane??? I dont remember....Now I do remember that Per drove the wicked orange VW bug!!
I am sure he wishes it looked this sweet!!!

Just a little something to think about. I have talked to several "grown ups" who have children who are of the driving age...they are not excited about driving...WHAT?? of course not ....parents drive them everywhere and everything is at the touch of a finger.....

Now back in the day....EVERYONE!!!! took the the exam ON YOUR BIRTHDAY!! hahahah!

Where is the Party???

Back in the day the party was either at the house of someone whose parents were out of town, some dark part of Cosmo Park or the famous McCubbins Partys ....oh my!

Well we are looking at Shiloh and Boone Tavern....Both excellent picks!.....The poll is now starting to show some activity that is leading to the July date!! So what about 2 parties??? Some could even make both!! Who does not like 2 reasons to get together !!! Hoot HOot!!

You never know where you will meet a Kewpie...

My Dad recently had surgery at the University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia and was in the ICU for several days. Naturally with the Sinclair School of Nursing and the University there is a virtual ocean of students from every corner of the world.
One particular student nurse he had for several days asked if I was from Columbia...when I replied...the next question from her was as spontaneous as I remember it used to be....."Hickman or Rickbridge?" I proudly answered KEWPIE!!! So was she!!!
Bless her sweet little self...I had to tell her about our endeavours to plan a 20 year class reunion.....she smiled and told me that she was the "class of 2005"....Which to me echoed the reminder this nice Florence Nightingale was born sometime during my freshman year at Oakland or my sophomore year at Hickman....um.....WOW~!!
The only things that this much younger lady and I had in common were teachers...

• I had Mr. Brooks for Chemistry.....so did she.
• I had Ms. Kenninger for English.....so did she.
• I had Mrs. Grupe for World History...so did she.
• I had Coach (Mr.) Mirts for Algebra.......she had him for golf.
• I had Mr. Grupe for American History....I believe he is now the principle.

Glad to know that some things never change......................
